Thomas and Kimberly Carlson, founders of Woodtick Marketing LLC in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Our Story

Thomas L. Carlson grew up in Duluth, Minnesota, with strong family roots in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. His parents were raised in L’Anse and Baraga, Michigan, and many of his early memories involve visiting family across the UP. He later met Kimberly A. Carlson while in graduate school, and the two later married. Thomas is also a proud member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC) of Baraga, Michigan.

In 2021, they founded Woodtick Marketing LLC, a Sioux Falls–based digital media company dedicated to creating high-quality, state-focused lottery education and information websites. Their goal is to help players understand and enjoy the lottery responsibly, with transparency and accuracy at the heart of every article.

Our Mission

About Thomas & Kimberly

Before founding Woodtick Marketing, Thomas and Kimberly operated a successful e-commerce company for nearly two decades. In 1999, they launched Assisted Living Store, Inc., which grew to include several online retail brands:

• AssistedLivingStore.com — adaptive and assistive products for seniors
• ElectricBlanket.net — specialty bedding and comfort products
• Pillowcase.net — premium bedding and accessories
• LaundryBags.com — commercial and consumer laundry bag solutions

The company was sold in 2018, allowing them to focus on future ventures in digital publishing and information design.

Thomas previously served as a Senior Special Agent with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Inspector General, and earlier with the U.S. Customs Service, investigating large-scale fraud and smuggling cases. Kimberly has a background in gerontology, wellness, and education, holding a Master of Science in Gerontology from Minnesota State University–Mankato.

Together, they bring more than 25 years of combined experience in research, business development, and communication to the world of lottery information and player education.
